Death toll in France rises to 1,696

The figures for covid-19 in France were updated today by the Director-General of Health, Jérôme Salomon, who indicated that there are 29,155 confirmed cases in the country and 1,696 dead, including a 16-year-old girl.

There are still 13,904 people admitted to hospitals due to this pandemic and 3,375 are in intensive care.

According to the authorities, only about 5% of the cases that reach the emergency room daily are referred to intensive care.

As for the 16-year-old girl who died of covid-19 in the Paris region, the Director-General for Health did not give any details about her state of health before contracting the virus, being the youngest deadly victim in France due to this disease.

This Thursday, the Public Health Agency in France reported that last week about 40,000 cases were diagnosed by general practitioners who do not enter the statistics released by the Government.

“We are making an effort to adapt to surveillance more adapted to this epidemic and have a real assessment of the number of cases,” said Jerôme Salomon, recalling that in his statistics only the cases confirmed through testing and not just by diagnosis doctor.

The first transport of patients by high-speed train was carried out today with the transfer of 20 critically ill patients from the Grand Est region to various hospitals in the Loire Valley, where there is more availability in intensive care units.
