At least 182 is the death toll from the explosion that occurred on August 4 in the port of Beirut, which also injured more than 6,000 people.
A source from the Department of Health told Efe that the balance has risen to 182, although it maintains the number of wounded at “more than 6,000”, while the Lebanese Army places 30 people who are still missing.
On August 4, a cargo of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate stored in a warehouse in the port of Beirut exploded, generating an expansive wave that affected the entire Lebanese capital.
This Saturday, August 22, the Lebanese President, Michel Aoun, asked those affected by the explosion to “hold fast to their lands, homes and the identity of their city, Beirut.”
He also recalled that the process of “compensation for those affected will be fast, efficient and fair.”
Aoun indicated that the losses produced by the catastrophe are around 15,000 million dollars.
More than half of the public and private health centers in the Lebanese capital have been affected, which has made it difficult not only to care for those injured by the deflagration, but also to treat patients with covid-19, which has returned. to rebound in the midst of tragedy.
Both UN agencies, humanitarian organizations and the international community are supporting Lebanon by sending supplies and additional medical aid.
