Locker room Belgium reportedly heated due to Kevin DeBruyne, Danger of Edenand Jan Vertonghen made headlines after losing to Morocco in their Group F match for the 2022 World Cup on Sunday (27/11).
These three players are influential players in the dressing room and leaders of the squad. Hazard is the team captain, Vertonghen is the vice-captain and De Bruyne is the third captain of De Rode Duivels.
Reported by Daily mail, Belgium’s dismal results caused an uproar in the dressing rooms. As well as losing to Morocco 0-2, Belgium also didn’t look convincing with a 1-0 win over Canada.
Belgium continues to be under pressure from Canada. Luckily Thibaut Courtois performed well under the crossbar and was able to save Canadian star Alphonse Davies’ penalty.
The tension in the locker room was also high due to De Bruyne’s statement. The Manchester City player once said the Belgian team was too old to lift the 2022 World Cup trophy.
As a result, anger increased. The emotions of Hazard, De Bruyne and Vertonghen exploded after the defeat against Morocco.
Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku even had to separate his three teammates. Lukaku tries to calm the heated situation in the Al Thumama Stadium dressing room.
Vertonghen’s statements after the match are also believed to have made the team’s condition even less favourable. The Anderlecht player satirised a forward line that was unable to score goals.
“We probably also attacked badly because we dominated too much. We have a lot of attacking quality, as well as Morocco, and they performed better. It’s really frustrating,” said Vertonghen.
Belgium will now have a decisive match against Croatia on 1 December. A draw or defeat means Roberto Martinez’s side will be eliminated from the group stage.
