Dāvis Sīmanis will continue to lead the Academy of Culture

He was the only applicant who was forwarded for the rector’s election.

Simanis was unanimously elected by the LKA Satversme assembly in a secret ballot. Rūta Muktupāvela, the former LKA rector, also invited its members to vote for Sīmani.

LKA Council Chairperson Dace Melbārde (JV) is convinced that under the leadership of Sīmanis, by making the necessary changes, including the transfer of the university to the “TabFab” block, LKA will become an internationally recognized art and culture university.

Sīmanis is one of the most internationally known Latvian film directors, who has made a series of documentaries and feature films. Sīmanis is the director of such films as “The Silence of Mary”, “Father’s Night”, which was also nominated for the Academy Award in the foreign film category, “The Year Before the War”, “The Wall”, “Pelnu Sanatorium”, “Chronicles of the Last Temple”.

Sīmanis has received several “Lielā Kristaps” awards, including the nomination “Best Feature Film Director” for the film “Father Night” in 2018 and for the best film of the year “The Year before the War” in 2021.

His works have participated in many prestigious international film festivals around the world, including Berlin, Venice, Rotterdam and other festivals, and have received various awards.
