Datsun leaves the Russian market

Nissan has announced the departure of Datsun from Russia. This will happen as part of the company’s three-year plan to reduce costs.

Two Datsun models are currently sold in Russia – the on-DO sedan and the mi-DO hatchback. AvtoVAZ plant in Tolyatti is engaged in their production. These are some of the cheapest cars on the market. A sedan costs from 511 thousand rubles, and a hatchback – from 534 thousand rubles.

The Russian press service of Nissan told Auto Mail.ru that the production of Datsun will be completed at the end of 2020. The decision was dictated by an unstable market situation and a decrease in new car sales.

Deliveries of Datsun cars to dealers will continue until March 2021, and retail sales will continue until all cars are sold.

The company also noted that they would aim to expand the lineup in the SUV segment.

“We confirm that the Russian market remains one of the strategically important for our business, therefore, one of our main tasks is the implementation of a new effective plan to ensure stable growth in the future. One of the steps in this direction will be the expansion of the model range in the segments of crossovers and SUVs, because these models are especially popular among Russian buyers, ”Nissan representatives told Auto Mail.ru.
