D-15 before the kick-off of FFA 2021 from Angoulême! For the fourteenth consecutive year, the city of Charente, which recently had the honor of serving as the backdrop to the American Wes Anderson for his film The French Dispatch (in theaters October 27, 2021), welcomes at the end of the month of August, its now famous Francophone Film Festival, initiated in 2008 by Marie-France Brière, and the former star agent Dominique Besnehard. The dates of the festival
Like every year, the event takes place at the very end of summer. Thus, the fourteenth edition of the FFA will take place from Tuesday 24 to Sunday 29 August.
The jury
It is the actress and director Nicole Garcia who was chosen to chair the jury of this 14th FFA, succeeding Benoît Delépine and Gustave Kervern, co-presidents in 2020. “This is the very first time that I will come to Angoulême. It is a festival with a growing notoriety of which all the artists already invited have said the greatest good to me. We have just lived a terrible year for all the arts, for the cinema too; I am particularly happy, honored and joyful to be the president of the jury for this edition“She declared in the official press release. To decide between the films in competition and award her Valois (named after the trophies awarded during the closing ceremony), she will be surrounded by actor and director Reda Kateb, rapper Oxmo Puccino , journalist and host Leïla Kaddour, actress Noémie Schmidt, but also Antonin Baudry, Catherine Le Terrier, Marie Ndiaye, and Philippe Van Leeuw.
Films in competition
At the beginning of July, Marie-France Brière and Dominique Besnehard, unveiled the programming of this 2021 edition of the FFA, in particular the list of ten feature films selected in competition. These include in particular Black Box, by Yann Gozlan, in which Pierre Niney plays a young technician from the BEA who must investigate the reasons for the crash of the Dubai-Paris flight in the Alpine massif, as well as certain films selected in Cannes at the beginning of July, where they had received a warm welcome, like A story of love and desire by Leila Bouzid, or my legionary by Rachel Lang, with Louis Garrel and Camille Cottin.

A tribute to Algerian cinema, “flamboyant” films, many previews …
In addition to the official competition, there are many preview events. So the movie Eiffel, by Martin Bourboulon with Romain Duris, will be screened, for the first time in Europe, at the opening of the festival on the evening of Tuesday August 24. The film Eugenie Grandet by Marc Dugain, will succeed him at the end of the event. Aline, the true-false biopic of Valérie Lemercier on Celine Dion will be screened Thursday. One of the sessions will be followed by a musical conversation in the presence of the actress-director and Julie Gayet. Likewise, Laurent Lafitte will present his Origin of the world, Charlotte de Turckheim Thin then 2: relapse, when the president of the jury Nicole Garcia, will unveil her film Lovers.
This edition, the FFA will pay tribute to Algerian cinema with a selection of twelve feature films presented by Lyes Salem, winner of the very first Valois d’Or awarded by the festival in 2008 to his film Mascarades. An American star in Angoulême!
If there is a festival dedicated to cinema in the language of Molière, the FFA does not forget its foreign friends.
