“Data of 533 million Facebook users leaked”

The personal details of more than half a billion Facebook users are on the street. The Business Insider website writes this on Saturday. There would also be more than 3 million Belgian users.

According to the website, data from 533 million Facebook users from 106 countries was released in a hacker forum. This concerns data such as telephone number, Facebook ID, full name, place of residence, date of birth and email address.

The leaked data was discovered by Alon Gal, the technology director of cyber security firm Hudson Rock. He also posted an overview per country on Twitter. This shows that more than 3.18 million Facebook users would be involved in Belgium.

“If you have a Facebook account, chances are that the phone number used for that has been leaked,” Gal tweeted. He also warns that the data could be misused.

According to a Facebook spokesperson, the data was stolen via a vulnerability that was discovered in 2019 and also repaired.
