Gusts of 172 km/h recorded

The wind is already blowing very strongly on Saturday morning in the Haute-Loire department. A gust of 138 km/h was recorded at the Mazet-Saint-Voy weather station (Volamont) between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. while another was measured at 99 km/h at the Le Puy/Chadrac station.

On the RD500, between Fay-sur-Lignon and Saint-Front, the wind is blowing so much, at 2:30 p.m., that we can’t stay outside.

Snowflakes have been falling heavily on the Mézenc since the morning. In the afternoon, the north of Mézenc also suffered from the snowstorm.

Trees fallen across the roads

As the gusts of wind hit the Haute-Loire, calls to the Operations and Intelligence Center of the Haute-Loire gendarmerie intensify to report trees or branches that have fallen on the road network. Altiligerian.

This is the case on the RD21 between Vorey-sur-Arzon and Bellevue-la-Montagne, on the D30 between Chazelles and Desges, the RD31 between Cayres and Le Bouchet-Saint-Nicolas… The D103 has also been blocked at Dunières. On the D105, in the Lapte/Yssingeaux direction, a tree has blocked the right lane. Other interventions were reported in the Freycenet-la-Cuche sector.

In Yssingeaux, the damage was multiple, starting with a tree cut in two at the Antreuil parking lot.

On the RN88, a central sign indicating PK31 + 700 was torn down in the direction Monistrol-sur-Loire/Le Puy. Vegetation is also found on the roadway on the descent of Barrys. Rue des Aiguës, on the D103, a tree that fell on the road blocked both lanes around 7:30 a.m. A telephone line was damaged.

Power cuts

Power cuts are also reported in Haute-Loire, particularly in the municipalities of Saint-Romain-Lachalm and Saint-Victor-Malescours.

Three departmental roads closed to traffic

From late Friday afternoon, due to the slush which led to the formation of snowdrifts, three departmental roads were closed around the village of Estables:

  • the RD500 from Freycenet-Latour to the Chaudeyrac crossing;
  • the RD36 from the Moudeyres crossroads and to the limit with the Ardèche department (via Les Estables);
  • the RD631 between the village of Estables and Croix de Boutières.

The Department’s road services are unable to keep these roads open, as the wind sweeps away the snow and forms significant snowdrifts. The only possible access to the village of Estables is via the RD535 and the RD631 via Le Monastier-sur-Gazeille and La Vacheresse.

At noon on Saturday, the entire area was placed in black by the roads department, indicating that traffic was impossible in the Mézenc sector.
