So Daniela Manni, Alex Zanardi’s wife, paid homage to the Obiettivo3 athletes who on Sunday afternoon concluded the great charity relay in handbike wanted by the Bolognese champion. During a stage of this event, on 19 June on the Statale 146 in Pienza, Zanardi remained involved in a dramatic accident, and is still hospitalized in a reserved prognosis in the intensive care unit of the Policlinico Santa Maria alle Scotte di Siena. As the Gazzetta dello Sport, his wife Daniela, who is next to him, wanted to follow the final arrival of the relay, in Santa Maria di Leuca, through a video call from Tuscany, and sent these words of affection and closeness to all present.

A path of hope
The relay, strongly desired by Zanardi, is called Obiettivo Tricolore, and started on Friday 12 June from Luino, in the province of Varese, on the border between Italy and Switzerland, to end on Sunday 28 in Santa Maria di Leuca, in Salento, right on the tip of the boot. The initiative was launched to give a message of restart, after the difficult months of the lockdown, through the Paralympic sport, with 52 disabled athletes who passed the baton across 14 regions and covering more than three thousand kilometers divided into 44 stages. Crossing the finish line, the pride for the collective enterprise accomplished and the emotion for the terrible test that the greatest champion is still facing have mixed.
