The Swiss association is one of the two major players in the money dispute with the Wengen organizers about the Lauberhorn races, which in the worst case could be deleted from the calendar from 2022. As BLICK knows, Swiss Ski now wants to prevent a public outcry among the athletes. They all received an e-mail advising them to refer media inquiries to association boss Bernhard Aregger.
–
A racer who still expresses his opinion is slalom world champion Daniel Yule. On request, the 27-year-old athlete spokesman for the international association said on behalf of many of his colleagues: “It would be extremely painful if there were no more World Cup races in Wengen in the future.” The Valais also speaks in his own interest as a slalom specialist. Because: “The Lauberhorn races not only include an ingenious downhill run – in my opinion Wengen also has the best slalom slope in the world.”
–
Despite all fears, Yule remains diplomatic. “At the same time, I also know that Swiss Ski has good reasons to show the Wengeners the yellow card.” This probably means the claims of one million francs, allegations of blackmail by Swiss Ski and other mutual stubbornnesses that have now escalated in the struggles of power over many years.
–
“We athletes are always expected to set a good example on and off the slopes,” says Yule. “I now expect the main actors in this battle for the Lauberhorn to find an exemplary solution as well.”

Kernen: “A huge loss for everyone”
Bruno Kernen (47) hopes so. The Bernese Oberlander won the Lauberhorn downhill in 2003. «I am sure that Swiss-Ski is aware of the importance of this race. That is why I am confident that a solution can be found, »he says (video above).
–
An end to the Lauberhorn races «would be a huge loss for everyone involved. For the region, for the volunteers, for the OK, but also for Swiss-Ski. » It sounds unimaginable, continues Kern. «It is a race with a lot of tradition. The word myth is used very often. »
–
Without the legendary descent in Wengen, the ski circus would lose a crowd-puller for Kernen – both on site and live. «We have three classics that all ski fans paint on the calendar: Adelboden, Wengen and Kitzbühel. And I don’t know if people will still tune in if one of the races suddenly takes place somewhere else. »
