The American musician who formed America with Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell after meeting them in London in the late 1960s has died in his sleep, according to his former acolytes.
“I’m so sad to hear of Dan’s death“, reacted Dewey Bunnell in a statement posted on the site of the group, recalling the”happy moments, full of excitement and laughter“that the three men shared.
The trio enjoyed worldwide success with their hit “A Horse with No Name” from their 1971 album “America”.
Dan Peek left the band in 1977 to embark on a solo career before retiring in the 1990s.
“We have created pieces together that have lasted and had a life we could never have imagined“, a déclaré Dewey Bunnell. “Even though we took different paths, his contributions to America’s music has always been present and will last forever. This news is very sad“, he added.
Gerry Beckley for his part considered that “Dan and his music will continue to live on thanks to the awesome songs he shared with all of us.“.
