Former rugby star rowing from New York to Ireland
5550 kilometers with pure muscle strength.
Irishman Damian Browne (42) is the first person to travel the New York to Galway route on the west coast of Ireland. The former rugby professional took 2686 hours or the equivalent of 112 days.
He allowed his followers to participate in the unusual journey via Instagram. He took photos of physical injuries but also of dolphins accompanying him on his journey. Browne’s conclusion: “I fought Mother Nature at every step”.

He had to make progress every mile. “Take a 15 minute break and you’ve lost half a mile again, but you can’t let your head hang down,” the extreme athlete describes the run.
He originally wanted to take turns crossing the Atlantic with his friend Fergus Farrell in half the time. But he had to stop the trip after only 13 days for medical reasons.
So Browne was alone for over three months. But loneliness wasn’t a problem for him: “I’m just the kind of guy who gets energy from being around alone. The sea has given me more problems,” he told the Irish Independent.

It became especially difficult when the 42-year-old was very close to the door. He ran aground on a rock just off the Galway coast in the middle of the night. “The boat was hit by a big wave and capsized. One of the rudders broke.”
So he was addicted to help for the last few meters, but that didn’t dampen his mood. “I got what I wanted and I’m happy to be healthy and unharmed.” Back home, he was delighted to be back with him, his daughter Elodie.
