Czech designer has designed an amazing sports car inspired by muscle cars, Japanese cars and cyberpunk

Designers seek inspiration in different ways when designing cars. Maybe even in the world of cyberpunk.

Cyberpunk (in English cyberpunk) is considered a subgenre of science fiction, currently quite popular. Recently, the Cyberpunk 2077 game has increased its popularity, and the hit anime series Edgerunners, which appeared on Netflix in September, has also made a splash. It even shares the setting of the fictional city of Night City with the mentioned game.

According to Czech Wikipedia Cyberpunk grew out of the New Wave science fiction movement of the 1960s and 1970s. It is set in a futuristic setting and features a “combination of social scum and advanced technology”.

The cyberpunk theme also appeals to a young Czech designer Radek Štěpán, who you may know as the creator of the modern Tatra 77 concept. Radek tried to combine some cyberpunk motifs with the design of a sports car. The result is the KobraXT project.

“Kobra was created as a proposal for my short automotive video project, which serves as a platform for studying and improving skills in animation, scene lighting and generally getting a purely cinematic look. second venture into the project, the first was the design of the Meduza limousine. However, it was inspired by other methods.Kobra combines my favorite theme of cyberpunk and automotive design. reveals Radek Štěpán.

And it highlights a particular detail, inspired by the award-winning anime series Ghost in the Shell (Kōkaku kidōtai; there is also a feature film of the same name, known in our country as Ghost in the Shell). “There was a vehicle that appeared several times in the series that basically just had a big red rectangle as a taillight signature. It’s a very simple element, but at the same time visually tremendously powerful. That’s why I wanted to incorporate it into my design as well,” Radek says.

However, cyberpunk isn’t the only big inspiration. “American sports cars, i.e. muscle cars, and Japanese cars from the 70s and 80s also had a big influence on the final design. Lately I have a soft spot for ‘vintage’ and wanted to design a car with a of nostalgia”. supplies.
