Direct weather: cyclone Thor worse and worse, soon storms, snow and hurricane winds over half of Italy

Cyclone Thor in actionCyclone Thor is about to unleash itself and in the next few hours it will become increasingly bad: in fact, storms, snow and hurricane winds are expected.

To fuel the fury of the deep cyclonic vortex will once again be the icy winds coming directly from the very cold polar lands.
Already in the last few hours, after having crossed the heart of the Old Continent, very cold currents are pouring almost like a bullet into the Mediterranean basin, through the Rhone Gate (south-eastern France).
Currently the bad weather is affecting a large part of Sardinia with the snow falling starting from 500 m in the Nuoro area.

The eve of the weekend will be anything but quiet. It is legitimate to expect, in addition to a further drop in temperatures, serious effects also from a meteorological point of view: these fearsome atmospheric engines in fact they manage to maintain enormous power along their journey, energy which often translates into an intense convective activity around its central part, where particularly violent storm systems and very strong and turbulent winds can be hidden, with gusts over 120 km/h, also in the form of storm.
There are also some showers in Romagna and some snowflakes are falling at low altitudes in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine area. During the day, the bulk of the precipitation will also reach the Southern Lazio, Campania, Calabria, many areas of Sicily, Basilicata and then climb towards the Center going to affect Molise, Abruzzo and the southern Marches. Above all in the lower Tyrrhenian area, we do not exclude the risk of storms and flash floods due to the persistence of rainfall.

The latest update (map below) confirmed this eventuality, with heavy rainfall right around the eye of the cyclone (indicated with the letter B)Strong bad weather in the next few hoursStrong bad weather in the next few hoursIn these areas accumulations of rain are expected in the order of 2/300 liters per square metre in a very short time, i.e. the equivalent of 2 months’ total rainfall!

In addition to the risk of torrential rains, we also point out the neve that will fall most abundant on the reliefs at very low altitudes and on average around 2/400 meters and, finally, the winds that will blow with hurricane gusts causing strong storm surges with waves up to 10 meters high!
