A man who cycled home on Sunday morning was attacked at 5.15 am in Rieme by five young people. In the scuffle he got a black eye and a bruise on his nose. The police are still looking for the perpetrators.

Roselinde Deliaert, the victim’s girlfriend, says that the perpetrators twice opened the car doors close to him and he was hit hard. His bicycle was thrown in a meadow. My friend defended himself. In search of help, he called at some houses. Then the five young people jumped in the car and they took off quickly ”, Deliaert writes on her Facebook page.
She calls the perpetrators cowards who, after knocking on the victim’s head, drove away scared. “Congratulations on your insanely tough behavior. Anyone who saw a small purple or blue car with five young people, saw the incident happen or saw them driving around, let us know. The police are looking for them ”, she writes on social media.
“The victim reported the incident, but we do not know the perpetrators,” said Commissioner Yves Tuytschaever of the Assenede-Evergem police zone. “The investigation is underway. The cyclist was apparently hit by a small car from which five young people jumped. We don’t know why they hit. For the time being we have to make do with a personal description and the fact that the youngsters move around with a small purple or blue car.
