“Cyclist found in ditch after night of drinking”

DOKKUM – A cyclist from the municipality of Noardeast-Fryslân woke up with a double hangover on Sunday. The man had cycled in the ditch along the Ljouwerterdyk near Ferwert during the night hours.

He was slightly injured and fortunately he managed to get out of the water on his own. Hypothermic and intoxicated with alcohol, he had stopped in the dark beside the ditch. A passing motorist caught him around 2:45 am. The police were called.

Because the alcohol victim had apparently been lying in the ditch for some time and had become quite hypothermic, the police alerted an ambulance.

The police fined the man for public intoxication and he was taken to hospital by ambulance for the necessary care.
