Cycling, Alberto Bettiol wins the Milan-Turin

The 105th edition of the Milan-Turin, the oldest race in the world: first edition in 1876, goes to Alberto Bettiol (EF Education-EasyPost). The 30-year-old Tuscan, winner of the Tour of Flanders in 2019 and of the Stradella stage in 2021 at the Giro d’Italia, he reached the finish line after a solo effort lasting 30 of the 77km 177km stretch from Rho to Salassa. Behind him were the Swiss Jan Christen and Marc Hirschi, both representing the UAE Team Emirates, 7″ and 9″ respectively.

“Proud to have won one of the most iconic races”

“It’s a great victory – assures Bettiol, with his first victory of the season, the fifth among professionals – I’m very proud to win in Italy. The Milan-Turin is one of the most iconic races in the world. I tested 30 km from the finish because I wanted to test my legs after Tirreno-Adriatico and before Milan-Sanremo. I didn’t expect to keep such a large group of riders behind me, it was very tough. It’s important to win, both for me and for the team.” Three other Italians in the top 10: fourth Diego Ulissi (UAE Team Emirates), sixth Gianluca Brambilla (Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team) and eighth Martin Mercellusi (VF Group-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè).
