Cyberpunk 2077: the Polish antitrust keeps CD Projekt Red in its sights

As you surely know, Cyberpunk 2077 is not doing particularly well. Between broken promises, huge problems on Old-Gen consoles and endless bugs that have involved all versions of the title, CD Projekt Red is undoubtedly experiencing stormy weeks which saw the arrival of various class-action, the momentary elimination of the game from the PlayStation Store and a violent stock market crash that cost the founders of the software house billions of dollars. There are still many doubts hovering over production and many are wondering what will happen in the course of 2021, what for many should prove to be the year of redemption.

CD Projekt Red has in fact announced several times that it is still working to solve as many problems as possible, so as to offer players the experience that was promised, with some particularly important patches that should appear by the end of February, but at present everything still looks particularly nebulous. In short, the blow suffered by the team was very heavy – despite the incredible results in terms of sales that will probably become even more palpable when the versions PlayStation 5 e Xbox Series X/S of the title will get those much anticipated Next-Gen updates – especially in terms of image, a disastrous escalation of events to which a further task will now be added.

The Polish antitrust (UOKiK) has in fact recently decided toinitiate intensive monitoring of CD Projekt Red’s activities and, more specifically, of the patches that will be released for Cyberpunk 2077, with the ultimate aim of making sure that the planned updates arrive within the established time frame and put real “patches” to the big problems that gamers have encountered in-game. Otherwise, the software house could suffer heavy fines that could create many headaches, with figures to be paid equal to 10% of all revenues totaled by the development house during 2020.

In particular, Małgorzata Cieloch, representative of UOKiK, made it known through a statement that the institution will interface directly with the firm to have as many clarifications as possible regarding the problems encountered under development and the actions the team will take to resolve them. Considering that the project has received huge investments from local institutions precisely to develop Cyberpunk 2077 at its best – let’s not forget that CD Projekt Red has become over the years one of the most renowned companies in the whole of Poland -, it was foreseeable to imagine a stance particularly hard on him.
