Cyberpunk 2077 and RAM: do fast modules pay off?

Cyberpunk 2077, like other modern games, can use the GPU, which is fast becoming a bottleneck. And it’s understandable when we buy modern and powerful cards mainly because we can play in higher resolutions. These increase the demands on the GPU performance in particular, and the processor with RAM recedes into the background, as our yesterday’s test. –

As for memory capacity, according to the server test Tom’s Hardware 16 GB of memory is really enough for us, as stated in the requirements and in the best set. However, if we have 32 GB, there are settings in which higher capacity will be reflected. –

During the test, different speed modules with different capacities from 16 GB DDR4-2666 to 32 GB DDR4-4000 or DDR4-3600 with better timing were used on the Core i9-10900K. Indeed, when it comes to settings that do not limit the performance of the processor or graphics card, the memory can be very affected. The first graph shows the results in Full HD resolution to medium details, where it is almost a quarter of the difference and it is very similar even after setting high details.

However, this test was performed using a GeForce RTX 3090 card, and who would want to play Cyberpunk 2077 in Full HD with one just to have over 100 FPS? But then all we have to do is turn on Quad HD or Ultra HD and the differences are there.

In tests in higher resolutions with high quality, it is very similar (except for Quad HD with medium quality). The RTX 3090 is a card that we definitely want to play Ultra HD games with, and in that case, this test showed us that memory doesn’t really matter to Intel. DDR4-2666 ended best and DDR4-4000 worst, which may look strange, but it’s not a difference of a single FPS, and Cyberpunk 2077 can’t be tested in the same way, so results can vary greatly within a set. That is, the second graph simply needs to be read in such a way that the differences between the individual configurations are within the measurement errors.

Furthermore, it is confirmed to us that the Cyberpunk 2077 needs powerful graphics in particular, and due to its very high performance requirements, other hardware is secondary and in practice we will not help much with better memories or a faster processor.
