Cyber attack Maastricht University may last until after Christmas holiday

“We have been working feverishly since the discovery to find a solution. We are working with experts from the university and across the country to find out what exactly is going on and what we can do about it”, says Elbersen. He does not exclude that there will also be problems after January 6, the Monday after the Christmas holidays.

Students worry about the impact of the cyber attack on their studies. The academy is closed for Christmas. Yet many students continue to work on their thesis, for example. The library and the Student Portal, among others, are offline. Students are therefore unable to access documents. “I have to have a textbook that is on the server for a test in January and I can’t get to that”, explains student Tatjana. “In addition, I have to do a paper research and that too is online. I can’t do anything now.”

The university states that scientific data is stored securely.
