Customs inspects thousands of smuggled cigarettes during a train search

Officials of the Customs Board of the State Revenue Service (SRS) have prevented the smuggling of 259,380 cigarettes during the control of train wagons entering Belarus, the representatives of the SRS inform.

Cigarette packets were hidden in the walls of the wagon in specially designed hiding places and a load of concrete slabs.

On Tuesday, May 24, a train arriving from Belarus was inspected at the Indra customs control point. During the train control measures, customs officials and a cynologist with a tobacco search dog suspected the movement of undeclared goods.

Continuing the control measures, cigarette packs were found in the constructions of one wagon and in two other wagons – a load of concrete slabs. The packages contained a total of 259,380 cigarettes or 12,969 packets of NZ Gold and Queen Superslims with Belarusian excise stamps.

The amount of unpaid taxes to the state on seized cigarettes is approximately 46,000 euros.

The case materials have been handed over to the SRS Tax and Customs Police Department for the commencement of criminal proceedings.
