Internet fraud via Messenger, SMS and Whatsapp have become increasingly prevalent since 2021. The mostly unsuspecting use of messaging services plays into the hands of scammers.
Back in the summer of 2021, scammers made the first and unfortunately successful attempts to persuade Messenger users with messages that they were friends or family.
If the first contact and the first confidence-building in the dialogue are successful, the victims can easily be convinced and invited to send verification codes and subsequently also to transfer money to third party accounts.
