Current accounts and rate hikes: online banks promoted. The ranking

Climate of uncertainty

The current political-economic scenario full of uncertainty: with the resignation just resigned by the Prime Minister Mario Draghi the general climate, already very tense at national and international level, between the energy crisis and the recession, risks putting banks under further pressure and citizens’ current accounts. For many Italians, the choice of a trusted bank is therefore even more a difficult decision, especially when changing banks. In fact, the tendency is to remain loyal to the bank in which the first current account was opened. Despite this, it is important that banks create a solid relationship of loyalty with customers, communicating and offering a wide range of products and services in the most transparent way. The data shows that keeping an account open for many years with the same bank is not at all convenient. The Bank of Italy’s annual survey published at the beginning of January shows that accounts opened for more than 10 years cost more than double those opened in the last year. In the annual statistical survey, Altroconsumo examined the degree of satisfaction of account holders with respect to the service offered by its bank, relying on 34,135 evaluations from shareholders. Furthermore, in order to guide consumers among the costs, the Organization has analyzed the FID (Fee information document – the information document on expenses) of 19 large banks chosen from traditional and online operators, comparing the ICCs ( Total cost indicators) for three typical profiles among the six identified by the Bank of Italy: young people, families with average operations and retirees with average operations.
