Current account risk, hackers in action: 1500 euros stolen

A hacker has infiltrated the current account of an unfortunate user, managing to steal 1490 euros. Here’s what happened.

Thanks to the use of new technologies, we are all used to always being connected, thus managing to communicate easily with people and companies that are located in every corner of the planet. Starting from e-mail, passing through the sites, up to the social networks, on the other hand, there are many tools at our disposal. In addition to the countless advantages, however, we must pay the utmost attention to possible pitfalls.

More and more frequently, unfortunately, it is possible to come across some scams, through which malicious people try to access the data of the unfortunate person on duty, thus managing to complete their attempt at fraud. A well knows citizen of Asolo that after falling into the phishing trap he has seen 1490 euros stolen from his current account. Here’s what happened.

Current account hacker attack: phishing technique used

On January 15, the investigative info activity of the Carabinieri of Asola ended with a computer hacker who last July 2020 had managed to alter the functioning of home banking of an Asolan citizen. In this way, in fact, he managed to sneak into his current account, subtracting 1490 euros. In order to be able to implement the scam, the hacker used the so-called phishing technique. The latter, we remind you, consists in sending a message, generally by e-mail, with graphics and contents similar to those of an institution known by the recipient, such as his bank.

This message presents related warnings alleged problems on the current account, inviting the unfortunate person on duty to click a link and provide personal data. The latter are then used by the scammer to be able to score his scam. An attempt at fraud which, unfortunately, involved an Asolan, who discovered that he had been robbed after reading the account statement. At that point he immediately contacted the carabinieri who were thus able to trace the profile of a nineteen years old which, despite its young age, had already impressed other users.
