Curiosities in the play “Skroderdienas Silmači” – actors’ stories / Article

Actress Dita Lūriņa started her journey in “Silmači” at the age of six, playing Tony. She is now Antonia, and little Tony is her daughter Greta.

“I am very happy that Greta is playing Tony this year! I had Tony at the Liepaja Theater, then I came to this theater as Ieviņa, then I played Zaru for a year and now, in my opinion, Antonija has been playing for ten years,” says Dita Lūriņa.

Over time, the play has been supplemented by various jokes, which the actors play with each other both in rehearsals and in the show itself, the actress says. For example, pay attention to the scene in which Zara brought Abram tea: “Then either the spoon is smeared with honey or the cup is glued to the saucer. Is there tea instead of whiskey? in the middle.”

The actress also had unexpected surprises while playing this play on the open-air stage: “When this production was in Druviena, there are microphones and it’s a completely different thing, and somehow Uldis Anže – I don’t know what he had, but he came in, that’s the first sight – our meeting… And where Alexis goes in his place to watch what’s with that horse and so on.And he actually comes in with a horse and a carriage and somehow I don’t know… its responsibilities or something like that and he turns, it’s Dudar, and go away to that horse! And all! I remain in one scene! And I call on his back and I know that on the stage I will hit him on the back with my voice and energy, but there everything – my energy goes out in the dark! And he so goes and And I went over to my chariot, and I stood alone, and said, Dudar, Dudar, for I will surely speak with him. (laughs)

Uldis Anže Dūdaru will play again this year. And he has been associated with “Silmači” for a long time – almost 30 years. Before Dudara, Joski played, but he was most strongly influenced by the role of Karlene.

“I remember the first year I played Karlene, then I got an inflamed knee, either from overload or like, and in the last two shows I was taken to the Red Cross Hospital at the time. “My face is not visible through makeup,” says the actor. “Karl, by the way, has the hardest role! There’s a tireless jump from start to finish. Well, and in the evening I was taken to the hospital of the Institute of Traumatology and there I was given a splint and said that everything – you can’t play! And I said,” How, the president is coming tomorrow! “

He wanted to play in front of the then President of the State Vaira Vike-Freiberga and other celebrities so much that the actor tore off the shin and played the role in spite of the doctor’s orders.

“And here I am! Dudar I am and limping! See, these are the consequences of Karlene! It’s so curious through the years!” said Angers.

This play has delighted the audience for more than a hundred years. And the actors appreciate that its strength is both evangelical and flamboyant images, which encourage every Latvian to be the same more often, as well as the opportunity to capture the holiday in the theater.

“Although staying in an apartment in Riga, they have already celebrated the holiday by coming to the show. Well and then the love story for Blauman has been good. I think people are always happy about good love stories,” says Anže.
