Before the end of the second round, the round of 16 of the DFB Cup was drawn on Sunday. Perhaps the most prestigious game of the drawing was the duel between VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Borussia Dortmund meanwhile has to deal with SC Paderborn. For RB Leipzig it is against VfL Bochum. It is still open whether the round of the last 16 teams will take place with the participation of last year’s finalists FC Bayern and Bayer Leverkusen. The defending champion’s second-round game at second division Holstein Kiel has been postponed to mid-January, as has the duel between the Werkself and Eintracht Frankfurt.

The winner of the game between Bavaria and Kiel will face Darmstadt 98 in the round of 16, Leverkusen or Frankfurt will then face the last remaining regional division Rot-Weiss Essen. The next round will be held on February 2nd and 3rd. The quarter-finals will take place on March 2nd and 3rd, the semi-finals will take place on May 1st and 2nd. On May 13th the final will take place in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
