“Culture at the winemaker” combines wine and art enjoyment in Lower Austria

As a contribution to get tourism, culture and viticulture back on track after the corona lockdown, the project “Culture at the Winegrower” was started in Lower Austria. From July 17th to September 20th, 32 winemakers will hold prominent cultural events. Guests can combine wine and art enjoyment.

“With this project we succeed in connecting and supporting three areas that are very important to us, namely culture, tourism and viticulture. And this in a particularly demanding and enjoyable way,” said Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) on Sunday.

The aim is to make the combination of wine, enjoyment and artistic performance unrestricted for the guests. “Winemakers from all wine-growing regions in Lower Austria have put together attractive, culture-friendly packages,” explained Tourism Minister Jochen Danninger (ÖVP).

“Wine in Lower Austria can not only be tasted, but also experienced culturally. We see this connection between wine and culture as part of the Austrian identity and we want to focus on it with the new series of events ‘Culture at the Winegrower'”, emphasized the President of the Chamber of Agriculture Lower Austria, Johannes Schmuckenschlager.

32 winegrowers from all eight Lower Austrian wine-growing regions came together in the project. The series of events will be opened by Tini Kainrath with Viennese songs. But she also performs with South American rhythms and sings jazz and blues. For friends of experimental music, a solo concert by guitarist Karl Ritter or a literary-musical sound installation by Hannes Raffaseder is recommended.

With Andrea Winkler, Richard Schuberth and Thomas Sautner, bestselling author Eva Rossmann, Magda Wojtzuck, who won several awards for her radio plays, and the two audience award winners at the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize Gertraud Klemm and Cornelia Travnicek, well-known Lower Austrian authors invite you to several readings. Both as a cabaret artist and as a profound wine connoisseur, Thomas Maurer appears three times with winegrowers on the Wagram, in the Wachau and in the Weinviertel. He reads from the texts and newspaper glosses between the wines to be tasted.
