Culture and tourism in the Hauts-Bassins: Actors at the school of associative governance

Since Monday, September 18, 2023, the Bobo-Dioulasso cultural center has been hosting the training workshop for cultural and tourism stakeholders in the Hauts-Bassins region on associative governance until the 23rd. The opening of the work was chaired by David Sanou, technical advisor in charge of culture at the Regional Council.

This capacity building workshop, in which around a hundred cultural and tourism stakeholders from the Hauts-Bassins region take part, is organized by the Regional Council with the collaboration of the Regional Directorate of Culture, Arts and Tourism. Training planned to be held until September 23, 2023 on performing arts, plastic and applied art and on cinema and audiovisual. It aims to strengthen the capacities of participants in management and associative governance in these different sectors. According to David Sanou, technical advisor in charge of culture at the Regional Council, this training is part of the implementation of the Support Program for creative industries and cultural governance. It aims not only to improve the internal governance of associations, but also to contribute effectively to the development of their localities. It is an open secret that in the Hauts-Bassins region management difficulties undermine the functioning of cultural associations. Among these difficulties, the question of poor governance comes up repeatedly, giving rise to a feeling of rejection among certain actors. “This workshop aims to reverse the trend of poor perception of associations and to allow them to fully play their role in development,” further underlined the technical advisor in charge of culture of the Hauts-Bassins Regional Council. David Sanou therefore invited the participants to actively participate and hoped that they would be able to make the most of it in order to improve the management system in their respective structures. Several modules will be provided to participants during this session. The emphasis will be placed on the fundamental principles of good associative governance, the regulatory and legal framework of associative life, the basic legal and technical tools of an association, the management bodies, the administrative and financial management of associations, the exercise of accountability, the participation of these structures in development.
