Culleredo is committed to leaving the Consortium before the “authoritarianism” of Oleiros | Radio Coruña | Today for Today A Coruña

In the middle of the last crisis of the Consorcio das Mariñas, The City Council of Culleredo has confirmed on Radio Coruña Cadena SER that it is studying its departure from the supramunicipal entity. The reasons are, according to its mayor, José Ramón Riobóo, the mismanagement of the joint garbage collection service, the “authoritarianism”, he says, with which the mayor of Oleiros acts and the possibility of combining the collection with the cleaning service in the municipality. Riobóo tells Ángel García Seoane that if he wants to preside over the consortium, he should run for democratic elections.

Riobóo is aware of risk for the Nostián garbage plant the continued departure of the councils of the supramunicipal entity. He points out, however, that the “consortium” model is an exhausted formula and that of As Mariñas is “misused” after the lack of consensus to transform the model into a commonwealth of municipalities in the metropolitan area of A Coruña. He considers that Culleredo can be self-sufficient to manage garbage, as Arteixo did, unifying the collection service with that of street cleaning.

It says that it will follow the established deadlines to inform and open a contest for the new garbage service, which it would be moved to the Nostián waste treatment plant, a model with which it agrees due to its commitment to recycling and sustainability, although municipal technicians will also analyze economic and profitability criteria. He believes, even so, that municipal policies should have a metropolitan vocation and is in favor of continuing on the path of creating the so-called metropolitan area.

Show your support for Santiso Miramontes, as president, mayor who was chosen by the majority to preside over the Consorcio das Mariñas. In that sense, he does not understand Oleiros’ position of asserting himself in charge without first going to a democratic vote. He considers that if someone wants to preside over the consortium, he must “have the courage to present his candidacy” and then submit to an election.

The City Council of A Coruña has preferred to stay on the sidelines for the moment of this new crisis in the consortium das Mariñas. Its spokesman, José Manuel Lage, is prudent with the decision of each city council and reaches out to supra-municipal cooperation.
