Cubana was attacked with a hammer by her partner in Bolivia

A Cuban woman had to be hospitalized in the state of Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, after having suffered an attempted femicide at the hands of her partner, who tried to kill her with a hammer.

According to the local media Dutythe woman was identified as Ayamey Najarro Cabrera, 27 years old.

Najarro suffered the collapse of his skull due to the blows inflicted by his partner, as well as other injuries to his head and hand. In total, the victim received six blows to the head with the hammer before the assailant fled.

The attacker was identified as Juan Carlos Maldonado Cortez, a bricklayer originally from Bolivia who had a romantic relationship with his victim for two and a half years.

The aforementioned media outlet indicates that the attack occurred while the victim was sleeping. While the events arose in the town of San José, in the municipality of La Guardia, on Sunday, July 2, it was until now that his case became visible on the networks.

The victim was admitted to the San Juan hospital after the attack, where she underwent various surgical procedures.

The woman stated that she woke up confused after the first blow, but that she managed to survive the attack to be able to call for help.

“I woke up to the second blow that he gave me with the hammer. I had to crawl to the door to call for help,” Najarro said from his hospital bed.

The victim explained that she had had an argument with Maldonado Cortez the day of the attack, and that he arrived at the house drunk. After the attack, the attacker told him that he would never see him again.

The couple’s two children, ages three and seven, as well as the children’s grandmother, left their rooms when they heard the Cuban woman’s cries for help, who was found badly injured outside her room.

“His idea was to kill her,” said Yamina Cabrera, the victim’s mother, who assured that the man had already threatened her son on previous occasions.

Najarro indicated at the beginning of July that the operation she underwent in the hospital had been a success, so she only had to recover beforehand.

“The operation went well, the doctors have told me that with a recovery I will soon be able to be discharged. Just be calm, recover little by little ”.

The Cuban has been living in Bolivia for four years, during which time she met her attacker and had two children with him. She worked as a cashier. And she received a medical discharge since last July 10. However, she must continue to receive treatment at her home.

Until now, the Bolivian media have not reported on the capture of the attacker, so it is unknown if he is still a fugitive from justice.
