A truck driver of Cuban origin identified as Rubén Eng was described by many as a hero after risking his life to avoid a potential tragedy at a gas station in the city of Miami, in the state of Florida.
According to the medium Telemundo 51the incident occurred during the early hours of Thursday, May 9, when the truck driver stopped at the Exxon gas station located on Southwest 200 Street, in southwest Miami-Dade County.
The man got out to operate the fuel pump, but after a short time he noticed smoke coming from his vehicle.
As he approached the cabin, he noticed that there was a small fire inside. Instead of escaping and getting to safety, the brave truck driver got back into his vehicle and drove it away from the scene, this to prevent the flames from expanding and causing a larger fire at the gas station.
The gas station’s security cameras captured the moment in which the brave Cuban got into the truck and began driving, while the fire continued to grow in the back of the 18-wheeler.
The truck driver drove until he reached a desolate area far enough from the gas station, then jumped out of the vehicle.
“I was at the gas station, pump number 7. I was almost finished, but something was wrong. Smoke began to come out of the truck. The fire came very quickly in less than 30 seconds, the entire truck was completely on fire. My arm and face were burning, but I stood outside the running board of the truck and managed to pull it here,” the man told the local press.
After the incident, firefighters arrived at the scene to find the truck still on fire. The professionals dealt with the fire and treated the Cuban, pointing out that he had suffered some burns on his arm and ear.
The man used his social networks to share one of the reports in which he appeared, pointing out that the man who was born to be famous “a burning truck falls from the sky.”
Gas station workers did not hesitate to describe the man as a true hero, because instead of running away, he risked his life to move the truck and avoid a tragedy.
“He did something heroic because he moved knowing that the fire had started. He risked his life just to get that truck out of there, because if that truck had caught fire up there, everything here would have disappeared,” one of those present told the media. NBC Miami.
