Cuban mother with cancer asks for help to obtain a humanitarian visa

A 32-year-old Cuban woman, identified as Eidys Pérez Barrera, has gone to social networks to request help by obtaining a humanitarian visa, as she suffers from cancer and needs to travel to the United States to receive treatment.

According to the independent media CubaNetthe woman needs to travel abroad because the self-proclaimed medical power does not have the necessary equipment or supplies to treat her illness.

Pérez resides in the province of Pinar del Río, and was diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell “Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma” in stage four, a condition that has rapidly deteriorated her health through infiltration of the bone marrow, osteological lesions and cervical lymphadenopathy.

The woman, mother of two small children, has been fighting this condition since January of last year, and has already undergone 14 cycles of chemotherapy that have not managed to eliminate the disease.

The aforementioned media emphasizes that, after her last session, Pérez has remained admitted to the hospital with low levels of platelets, hemoglobin and leukocytes.

Through a moving video, Eidys’ mother made a desperate call to the community, because her daughter needs to travel abroad, where she hopes that they will be able to treat the woman’s illness.

The recording ensures that the last hope that this young mother has is to access specialized treatment outside the Greater Antilles, specifically in the United States.

The drug necessary for this type of effective treatment is called Polatuzumab Viotin, and although it is not available in any pharmacy on the Island, it is easy to find in the United States.

“We are desperate, as a mother I feel very bad, she is a young woman, 32 years old, who needs to be there for her children. It is very difficult to not have the conditions for a disease like this,” the woman said in the video.

For this, the family of the young sick woman has started a campaign on the platform GoFundMe, this with the aim of raising enough funds to buy the medicine, which costs around $13,000 per bulb. In this sense, the family points out that the young woman requires at least three units of this type for possible treatment in the United States.
