Crystal methlab discovered in the village of Kerkenveld in Drenthe

The police yesterday rolled up a drug lab in the village of Kerkenveld in Drenthe, near Hoogeveen. The occupant of the building has been arrested.

Police said the lab was used to produce crystal meth, it has been decommissioned, reports RTV Drenthe. The production value of the drugs is estimated at about 3 million euros. According to the police, the street value is much higher.

Crystal meth

Crystal meth is short for crystal methamphetamine. It is a white, crystal-shaped drug that is highly addictive and has a powerful effect. The stuff is cheap to make.

“We suspect that some of the Dutch drug criminals want to switch from ecstasy to meth,” said Andy Kraag from the national police, recently against the Telegraph. “Because the profits abroad are often tenfold and because it is easy for Dutch ecstasy producers to do. They already have the necessary hardware, raw materials and distribution networks. Only the recipes of the Mexicans were missing.”

Dismantled in a villa

Start this month it was announced that the police had arrested four suspects in connection with the discovery of 2500 kilos of crystal meth, last year in Rotterdam. Those drugs – according to the police with a street value of hundreds of millions of euros – were in a hidden space in a commercial building. That find is considered to be the largest ever in Europe. Shortly thereafter, 17,500 liters of chemicals for the production of drugs were found in a warehouse in Utrecht. The police burned the drugs.

On May 25, a crystal methlab was dismantled in a villa near the Overijssel village of Willemsoord. A few weeks earlier, the police arrested three people in a drug lab in a shed in Achter Drempt, in the Achterhoek. The spokesman cannot say how the police located the lab in Kerkenveld.
