Cristiano Ronaldo was the first superstar to move to the Saudi Arabian league. This summer, player after player is following the Portuguese – the money is calling. Ronaldo has now commented on this development: “I paved the way to the Saudi league last January and now all the players are coming.”
He is 100 percent convinced that he will never play for a European club again, says the 38-year-old – “You can forget that. The door to a return is completely closed,” he told Portuguese journalists.
Ronaldo also couldn’t resist shooting a few poison darts. On the one hand, he said that European football had lost a lot of quality, only the Premier League could hold its own, “in my opinion it towers above all other leagues by far”. And then he was asked about the MLS, the league where his biggest opponent, Lionel Messi, went. «A move to the USA? No, the Saudi league is better than the MLS.”
That’s what Ronaldo said after his club Al-Nassr lost 5-0 in a friendly against Spanish first division club Celta Vigo. The five-time world footballer didn’t seem to care, because he followed up: “In a year the Saudi league will overtake the Dutch and Turkish leagues.”
