Cristiano Ronaldo Invests $40 Million in UFL: New Football Video Game Project

For Cristiano Ronaldo, betting doesn’t seem to scare him. The Portuguese had no qualms about leaving European football, whose last station was, in his case, Manchester United to join the fledgling Saudi Arabian league. He sacrificed sporting prestige in exchange for a hefty contract that brings him US$200 million per season. The impact of the movement is undeniable, although there is not enough time to measure the true effect.

The same logic can be applied to the last operation in which the Portuguese is involved. This time, it has nothing to do with his sports career, although it is indirectly linked to football. The paragon, in fact, works: CR7 changes teams and, once again, aims to become the development factor of an incipient product, with ample room for growth.

In the world of video games, Portuguese is a guarantee. For those who use it in their teams, it still guarantees speed and many goals, in the most varied ways possible. For developers, it is also a success factor. In fact, EA Sports had him as the protagonist of the emblematic FIFA saga in installments 18 and 19, with the consequent effect on the profits derived from a title that is now produced under another label. The end of the alliance between the Canadian production company and the governing body of world football led to a name change, although the spirit of the game remains the same: now EA Sports FC.

Before, in fact, CR7 had the same honor, but in the competition: Pro Evolution Soccer, current eFootball. In 2008, 2012 and 2013, he also appeared on the cover of Japanese company Konami’s flagship product.

Cristiano, accustomed to going against the current, now does so to support the nascent competition from the main market players: he became an investor in UFL. The bet is millionaire: the Al Nassr forward will contribute US$ 40 million for the development of the title.

More about Football

The Portuguese is excited about the alliance with Strikerz Inc. “I am excited to be part of this project because UFL can become a new alternative to football video games,” he declared in an official statement.

Eugene Nashilov, CEO of Strikerz Inc., is on the same page. “Cristiano Ronaldo joining us as a partner and investor is an important step forward and an endorsement of our vision of creating the leading game for football fans in the world. “UFL is committed to innovation, technology and entertainment,” he noted.

The executive values the union with one of the leaders of contemporary world football. “This is an ambition shared by Cristiano and we are excited to work together, while continuing to engage with future investors, to create a game that fills a gap in the football games market by unifying a rich gaming experience with continuous progress and a fair approach,” he insisted.

UFL does not yet have a release date and will be free to play, a similarity to eFootball. It will not include pay to win transactions and, according to its creators, efforts are focused on giving users the most faithful football experience they have enjoyed until the game is available.
