Heidelberg/Freiburg (dpa) – According to the diocese, Archbishop Stephan Burger of Freiburg was “shocked” by the killing spree at Heidelberg University. “We are stunned to look at Heidelberg throughout the Archdiocese of Freiburg. I am appalled and deeply dismayed by the attack that took place there this afternoon in a university lecture hall,” Burger said on Monday, according to a statement. He is in prayer with the victims and their relatives and thanks the rescue workers for their commitment. The city of Heidelberg is located in the Archdiocese of Freiburg.
“The fact must now be cleared up quickly,” demanded Burger. “Violence and bloodshed can never be a way for anything.” A pastor was called to look after students – especially the injured.
