Creator Ice Bucket Challenge dies of ALS | Abroad

Pat was diagnosed with the disease in 2013, a month after his 30th birthday. The ALS Association writes, “Immediately after his diagnosis, Pat decided he wanted to make a difference in the community of fellow sufferers.” The American wanted to raise money to be stronger in the fight against the disease.

Quinn saw the Ice Bucket Challenge on social media of Anthony Senerchia, a fellow sufferer, pass by. Quinn knew right away that this was going to be the challenge to raise money.

About the challenge

Together with his ‘Quinn for the Win’ supporters and the supporters of Team Frates, the support and anchor of Pete Frates, a fellow sufferer, the ‘challenge’ was set up. The challenge asked for money to be donated if you had thrown the bowl of ice water over you. It was also very popular to share the challenge with friends.

The Ice Bucket Challenge raised $ 115 million for the ALS Association and more than $ 220 million was donated to worldwide research into the disease. According to the ALS Association, the world-renowned fundraising campaign has meant a lot to people with ALS.

Together with his fellow sufferers Pete Frates and Anthony Senerchia, Pat Quinn was honored by the ALS Association in 2015 with the title ‘ALS Heroes’.

Anthony Senerchia died in 2017 when he was 46, Pete Frates died in 2019 at the age of 34.
