Italian designers recently created a 180-degree inflatable face shield, intended to be distributed to people in bars and restaurants after the coronavirus pandemic ends.
Dubbed Soffio (‘breath’, in Spanish), the protector was created jointly by MARGstudio, Alessio Casciano Design and Angeletti Ruzza, in the idea of helping people to return to their normal life and safely once they restrictions have been alleviated by the coronavirus, indicates RT.
What is special about this protective mask is that it is held in an inflatable structure made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which in turn has a plastic visor with an elastic head strap. The protector is thus located at a sufficient distance from the face to create a ‘protected personal space’, which allows whoever wears it to eat and drink while wearing it, Annalisa Grasselli, from MARGstudio, told Dezeen magazine.
The designers hope that their invention – which can be made for less than one euro ($ 1.09) each – will make it easier for restaurants and bars to reopen after the pandemic.
“The Soffio allows us to continue carrying out the actions of drinking and eating exactly as we did before, but safely,” said Grasselli, stressing that the protector “does not change our ways of experiencing social life in restaurants or bars.”
