MANHATTAN, New York. –– A crane went out of control, hitting buildings and throwing debris onto the street in Manhattan.

The incident was reported at a skyscraper under construction near 57th Street and 6th Avenue.

The fire department said debris fell from the building.

Police blocked vehicular and pedestrian traffic from 55th to 59th Street, from Madison Avenue to Eighth Avenue.

The building is an 84-story condo tower in the area known as “Billionaire’s Row” – an area of luxury homes that sell for up to $ 30 million.

The MTA announced the following changes to the subway: The F, N, Q, R and W trains are avoiding 57 St / 57 St-7 Av in both directions due to a NYPD investigation in the area.
