The controversy does not subside in view of the reopening of the school scheduled for September 14th. Now it is the principals who are asking the government to review the norm on safety in the workplace. Antonello Giannelli, president of the National Association of Principals, says he is very worried: «Before the reopening of the schools we asked to review the criminal responsibility attributable to school managers in relation to safety in the workplace. Covid is equated with an accident at work. If the head teacher implements the health protocol then he should not be charged anything. We are not talking about a criminal shield because that refers to subjects who have committed crimes, and the principals are not criminals or criminals ”. Then he continues: «School managers are asking for adequate resources to better organize and manage the safe return to school. We need rooms, single-seat counters and an expansion of the staff. The enormous efforts made by the principals, their collaborators, the Ministry and its territorial offices, the local authorities must not be thwarted so that the restart can take place in maximum safety for everyone ».

Giannelli also specifically addresses the issue of single-use counters: «We ask Commissioner Arcuri that the delivery schedule for the single-seater counters be published as soon as possible. The beginning of the new school year is approaching and it is not possible for the principals to find out the day before: to organize everything you need a minimum of advance. We are awaiting the meeting of the Technical Scientific Committee scheduled for the day after tomorrow, a meeting in which the situation will be taken stock and, we hope, more stringent indications will be given on the use of the mask. It is clear that in the absence of single-seater benches there will be a problem of distance and the only antidote will end up being the mask itself “. For Giannelli “everyone’s collaboration is needed, starting with the parents called to explain to their children how the mask is a fundamental protective device. The school connects 30 million people, entire families with parents and grandparents, and it is clear that with the increase in promiscuity between individuals, the risk of contagion also increases ».
