The fear of retaliation
The issue, however, could get further tangled. We consider it highly probable that some of the refugees work illegally and this makes tracking difficult – says Mauro Visentin, secretary of the CGIL of Treviso -. Companies don’t reveal collaboration and migrants don’t speak because they fear retaliation. This is about public health, colleagues have the right to know. In the acute phase of the epidemic, some Serena guests lost their jobs; others are still active in the fields, in artisan enterprises, in warehouses or on construction sites. Yesterday, the former barracks were guarded by police and carabinieri with all the migrants inside. Calm day, even if, among the grates on the windows, some boy speaks: We are angry, says Luka, Nigerian, welder in a company in the area: We don’t know where the virus came from. The other night, a guest lost control, causing damage to the infirmary’s equipment. The night before, rumor that finds confirmation and denials, some others tried to force the hand and go out, without result. The Venetians spent months indoors at home – Governor Zaia points out, alluding to protests -. I don’t understand why these gentlemen are already raising their voices because they want to go out. Here we see whether the state exists or not.
