At the Civico di Palermo a new outbreak in Cardiology explodes: some patients and 5 health workers are positive. The balance of the cluster in emergency medicine also worsened with 21 infected: 12 patients, 7 nurses, 2 doctors. Two other operators developed symptoms this morning and are awaiting the results of the swab. Ordinary hospitalizations were suspended in both wards. Instead, cardiological emergencies are guaranteed.
All emergency medicine doctors had been vaccinated with the first dose of Pfizer vaccine between December 31 and January 7. According to available clinical studies, the first dose guarantees 50 percent coverage after 12 days. Only the second dose, which is performed 21 days after the first, ensures 95 percent coverage after one week of administration. The ward with 22 beds is currently closed for sanitation.
