KONTAN.CO.ID – WASHINGTON. The United States (US) government has begun to offer to ease the use of masks in order to increase the vaccination rate for Covid-19 in Uncle Sam’s country.

US President Joe Biden on Tuesday (27/4) local time gave permission to all citizens who have received the full Covid-19 vaccination to leave their homes without masks.

However, Biden and US health regulators reminded these citizens to keep wearing masks in certain public spaces.

This recommendation was renewed after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) noted that more than half of all adults in the US have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Biden said the new advice was the result of steps the country is taking to fight the coronavirus.

“We are making tremendous progress because of all of you. If you have been vaccinated, you can do more things, be safer, both outdoors and indoors,” Biden said, as quoted. Reuters

The new guidelines are what the CDC calls a “first step” in helping Americans to continue activities they have suspended due to the pandemic.

Since the vaccination program began in the US, infection rates have started to decline, although the numbers are still quite high when compared to other countries.

Reuters reported, new Covid-19 cases fell 16% in the past week. At least 140 million people have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Data from the CDC show that more than 29% of the population is fully vaccinated, and 43% have received one dose of two vaccine shots.

Currently the White House is still working to resolve vaccine doubts. Hopefully, the new guidelines that start eliminating masks will attract many citizens to receive vaccines.

“So, for those who haven’t been vaccinated, this is another good reason to get vaccinated,” said Biden.
