The arrival to Zacatecas of the Covid-19 vaccines has been delayed, which are part of the National Winter Vaccination Campaign that started last Monday in all the states of the country.

The health sector is only applying the seasonal influenza vaccine to vulnerable groups such as children under five years of age, people over 60 years of age, pregnant women and people with comorbidities. The goal is to apply 496 thousand doses by March 2024.

Health center workers consulted by this media commented that they have not yet confirmed when the reinforcements against the SARS-Cov2 virus will be applied.

Mayra Acevedo, in charge of vaccination at the Jerez General Hospital, commented that “they are waiting for it to arrive,” and also commented that she does not know the reason for the delay.

Personnel from the Family Medicine Unit 5 of Social Security, also located in the city of Jerez, told this medium that it is possible that the vaccines will be applied starting next week.

For his part, Saúl Emmanuel Macías Castro, universal vaccination coordinator of the 03 Fresnillo Health Jurisdiction, announced that this Thursday the application of the reinforcement against Covid-19 begins in the municipality, although the official also lacks data on the number of doses and the logistical details.

The last immunization campaign against Covid-19 that took place in Zacatecas took place from August 4 to September 15, in which only seven thousand of the 32,430 doses of Pfizer children’s vaccine that were available were applied.

Then, health authorities attributed the failure to meet the goal to the rejection of parents, caused by the expiration date of “November 2022” on the biological label.
