A new COVID-19 outbreak is looming over the CHSLD Cooke in Trois-Rivières where two units are currently under close surveillance by the CIUSSS de la Mauricie-Center-du-Québec after two health workers contracted the disease.

The D2 and D3 units were put into “energized” mode Wednesday evening by the CIUSSS Mauricie-Center-du-Québec. This means increased vigilance and possible transmission between workers and users.

Affected workers reportedly contracted the virus outside the walls of the facility and were placed in isolation.

Health authorities have not declared an outbreak at the Cooke CHSLD for the moment, because the two people affected would have contracted the virus in a different way. Remember that hatching requires a minimum of two connected positive cases.

Last winter, an outbreak killed 28 people at this facility.

The CIUSSS-MCQ continues to closely monitor the epidemiological situation in the region. In one week, the number of active cases rose from 19 to 72. Transmission is much more pronounced in Mauricie than in Center-du-Québec.

Moreover, the Trois-Rivières sub-sector ranks third in the province in terms of the rate of covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants, with 27.8.
