Covid-19: Third wave in South Korea, US death toll – Abroad – News

Record number of deaths in the United States

More than 2,400 new Covid-19-related deaths have been reported in the U.S. in the past 24 hours, a new one-day record in the past six months, according to data compiled by Jones Hopkins University on Wednesday.

Approximately 200,000 new infections and 2,439 new deaths were recorded in the United States during the day.

Since the start of the new coronavirus pandemic, 13 million infections and 262,080 deaths have been reported in the United States.

U.S. authorities have urged Americans not to go on Thanksgiving this week because of the rapidly growing number of Covid-19 cases in the country.

Before Thanksgiving, which is celebrated on Thursday and is one of the most important public holidays in the United States, there were unusually few passengers at US airports on Wednesday night compared to other years.

The third wave in South Korea

South Korea announced on Thursday 583 new cases of Covid-19, the highest number of Covid-19 cases registered in a single day in eight months, and authorities have called it the third wave of the new coronavirus.

Most new cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Seoul and the surrounding province, according to information provided by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).

30 patients have arrived in South Korea from abroad.

The number of new cases of Covid-19 in South Korea has not exceeded 500 since March 6, when the KCDC reported 518 new cases.

In South Korea, 32,318 people have been infected with the new coronavir to date, of whom 515 have died, including two in the past day.

“We are now in a situation where outbreaks of the virus can occur anywhere we live,” the South Korean health minister said, calling this the third wave of the new coronavirus. He called on people to adhere to the rules of social distance.

South Korea last week lifted restrictions in Seoul and the northeast of the country, where the virus is spreading more rapidly.

South Korea has been recognized for its success in the fight against Covid-19 and has so far avoided extensive quarantine regimes.
