Covid-19 positive Zamalek player

Mohamed Awad, goalkeeper of Team A of Zamalek, tested positive for Covid-19. This supported the decision of the players of the Cairo club.

The Egyptian Football Federation (EFA) has announced that all players in the league must pass the PCR test twice, with at least five days between each test. They also explained that the positive results will be disclosed privately in order to respect the privacy of the players.

However, Mohamed Awad revealed that he contracted the coronavirus on Friday, becoming the first Egyptian player to publicly announce his test results. The team captains, Hazem Emam and Shikabala, thus declared their wish not to resume the championship, whatever happens. Ashraf Sobhi, the Minister of Sports, had however announced that the local league would resume on July 25. The players refuse to put their lives at risk and threaten to defer to FIFA to file a complaint.

“My teammates and I will not sacrifice our lives, and the lives of our families, to resume the championship and please Al Ahly and his supporters”, Hazem Emam wrote on social media.

Mohamed Awad, 27, has played 11 games in all competitions for Zamalek this season, keeping a total of six clean sheets.
