PORTO VIRO (Rovigo) – “An outbreak of Covid-19 infection occurred within the Medicine Department of the Madonna della Salute Nursing Home in Porto Viro, which affected 10 patients hospitalized in the general medicine unit “.

The Madonna della Salute Nursing Home announces it with an official press release “Seven of them are over eighty-year-olds: they are therefore elderly patients, who, in compliance with the company protocol, had undergone entry to a nasopharyngeal swab to search for the virus, resulting negative, a general precaution adopted prior to the admission of all patients treated at the facility. All the staff in the ward have already been tested, however, already periodically subjected to screening and investigations are being extended to patients in the other departments of the Nursing Home. As a precaution, a suspend admissions to the Medicine Department and all the planned activities of the other specialist departments “.

On Friday afternoon the number of infections reached 17 among patients and operators of the Nursing Home, the Ulss 5 Polesana announced (READ ARTICLE)

“The Porto Viro outbreak is a source of concern and must see everyone united to try to stem the problem. The situation is evolving and it is certainly not the time for accusations but for solutions. But like Uil we can’t help but remember how, again in July, we had asked for an assumption of responsibility on the front of the Madonna della Salute Nursing Home and the City of Rovigo Nursing Home, so that all staff were swabs regularly, which had not happened. We had underlined how paradoxical it was that patients entering the facilities were subjected to swabs, but not the workers ”.

They claim it Cristiano Maria Pavarin, Attilio Minichini of the Uil Fpl secretariat of Rovigo “Already on May 25 we had sent a letter in which we asked the management of the two nursing homes to provide clarifications on the matter, but without obtaining concrete results. The Ulss 5 Polesana and the heads of the structures have long blamed themselves on who should intervene to carry out the screening of the staff. As we said over a month ago and as we reiterate today: we are not interested in this dispute, while it interests us, and a lot, because we consider it essential for the safety not only of the people directly involved, like the workers and the patients themselves, but also of their respective families and, in essence, of the entire Polesano tissue, that screening swabs are performed periodically. Because discovering a positivity promptly and isolating it turned out to be the winning strategy. And protecting the nurses, the Oss and all the staff, whose precious role has been well noted in this difficult period, is the least that can be done towards them.

This is to reiterate how we, like Uil, have been vigilant and have posed the problem in unsuspecting times not to make controversy but with a constructive spirit. And today, with the same spirit, we are alongside the workers of the Nursing Home, patients and their families “

“No alarmism but the news coming from the Porto Viro Nursing Home arouses serious concern” comments the Secretary General Fp Cgil Rovigo, Davide Benazzo.

“Ten patients in the medical area tested positive and among the first swabs carried out on the operators there are already 7 positivity that we hope will not increase, a condition that sets off an alarm bell that must absolutely not go unheard.

If we take for granted compliance with the safety protocols to be applied in the hospitalization phases of patients and, as a result, we find ourselves having to manage a possible hospital cluster that currently involves about twenty people between patients and operators, impossible not to think that something has not worked well.

That is, it could also be a consequence of a lowering of the level of attention and prevention due to the data of low / absent contagion index in Polesine. The fact is that our territory, at this moment, must activate a high alert in consideration, also, of the case reported by the Director General of the Ulss with respect to the positivity of a trainee physician operating in the Rovigo Hospital ”.

“High level of alert that must be recognized by all workers who work in health, social and health structures and directly on the territory. The same level of alert must be repeated on all citizens, deniers aside, because Covid is still very present and not silent at all.

Our concern is to be constantly present in order to be a point of reference for citizens and operators who find themselves having to manage this battle on the front line. With the Nursing Home we are making sure that the operators have all the necessary protective devices available for their health and that of the users themselves, at the same time we are verifying compliance with the use of all prevention and safety protocols.

Furthermore, we met with the management of the Ulss – he underlines Davide Benazzo – because in our opinion, it would be safer to immediately transfer positive patients admitted to the Porto Viro nursing home to the Covid Hospital in Trecenta. We are asking the state of stock availability of all the PPE necessary to deal with a possible further emergency situation that could arise with the lowering of temperatures from the same Ulss and all the social and health structures of the area.

No alarmism, but important awareness that turns out to be the first and most important level of prevention ”.
