Covid-19: Morocco’s leadership recognized in Africa

The medical aid, brought by Morocco to fifteen African countries to curb the new coronavirus, arouses satisfaction on the continent. Resilient, the Kingdom of Morocco confronts the difficulties arising from the pandemic and sweeps along the entire African continent.

Once again, the pan-African vision of King Mohammed VI was manifested through donations of health equipment and materials for the benefit of brotherly countries.

President of the Niger-Morocco friendship group, Issaka Manzo described the initiative of the Kingdom of the Cherifian as “commendable” in this very particular context where all economies are being hit hard.

Overall, nearly 8 million masks, 900,000 visors, 600,000 charlottes, 60,000 gowns, 30,000 liters of hydroalcoholic gel, 75,000 boxes of chloroquine and 15,000 boxes of azithromycin were offered by Morocco.

Like Niger, fourteen other countries on the continent are affected by this “active solidarity” operation.

These are Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Comoros, Congo, Eswatini, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Malawi, Mauritania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Tanzania, Chad and Zambia.

Mr. Manzo, a Nigerian parliamentarian, is certain “that we recognize our true friends in difficult times”. For the latter, “in this pandemic situation which spares no one, this is the most ideal time for Africa to be united with itself”.

For his part, Filippe Savadogo, former Burkinabe minister of Culture, Tourism and Communication indicated that Morocco has given impetus to “a new uninhibited dynamic”. In other words, he continues, this country “has understood that the world of tomorrow belongs to those who organize and work for peace and solidarity by counting on their own means, and on (the support) of their friends. “

A paradigm corroborated by Ahmed Tidiane Souaré, former Prime Minister of Guinea who affirms: “The problems of Africa must, in the first place, have (endogenous) solutions. The fight against the Covid-19 is an opportunity for this continent to take charge. ”

In the opinion of Mr. Souaré, King Mohammed VI simply “joined a strong gesture to the constant word”.

Finally, Bakary Sambe, Director of Timbuktu Institute recalled that “relations between Morocco and the rest of Africa have always been in a form of continuity. But the new vision of King Mohammed VI is to go beyond the countries that were classic partners (by opening up) to new regions of the continent. ”

In his remarks, Mr. Sambe argued that Moroccan medical aid is “a way of calling on African States to believe in their continent, in their potential knowing that more and more South-South cooperation will be fundamental with regard to the evolution of international relations, but also of the common past between Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa ”.
