As the situation grows in hospitals in the regions hardest hit by the Covid-19, l’Lisieux hospital (Calvados) remains vigilant: “The situation is so far quite similar to that of last week, but with despite everything an increasing trend”, indicated the management on Wednesday March 17, 2021.
However, it is not excluded that we will be faced with an increase in hospitalizations in the coming weeks. We are working with the ARS to anticipate and take into account the modeled hypotheses.
“The establishment and all the teams remain largely mobilized to screen, vaccinate and treat the population by constantly adjusting the organization of the hospital to face current events”, adds Nicolas bougaut, the director.
Main symbol of this adaptation to the epidemic: last week, the number of resuscitation beds dedicated to Covid went from four to six. A Covid unit is always open, with 15 beds. At the moment, “the number of patients is on the order of 12 to 15 on average, in a stable manner, announces the management. In intensive care, we have an average of four patients. »Figures similar to those of January 2021.
A majority of variants
The variants “are preponderant in the positive cases”: “They represent 90%, with a predominance of the British variant at 65%”.
Because of these variants, many establishments observe a rejuvenation of the patients received, whether in care or in intensive care. In Lisieux, “rejuvenation is relative”, ensures the management:
It is rare for patients to be younger than 60 years old. Many patients were born in the decade 1950-1960. They all have one or more comorbidities.
Overwhelmed, some hospitals have to transfer patients to less affected areas. Could the Robert Bisson hospital center receive any? “This hypothesis is not currently considered, but the Lisieux hospital could be called upon to the extent of its reception capacities”.
More than 500 agents have been vaccinated
At the same time, the hospital has also set up a test center – for several months now – then a vaccination center at the start of the year: “We are able to vaccinate 650 people per week. The number of tests that can be carried out is 345 per week ”.
“More than 500 agents have had at least one vaccine injection since January, or more than a third of the staff,” Nicolas Bougaut pointed out Monday, March 15, 2021. According to him, “around 200 agents” of the hospital have been affected by the Covid.
